2-year postdoc position at DANDRITE 928847

Kvitsiani group – Decision making laboratory at DANDRITE (The Danish Research Institute of Translational Neuroscience, see dandrite.au.dk), wants to fill a vacant position.

The postdoctoral position is a full-time position with 37 hours per week. Starting date is December 1st 2017. The project title is: ”Learning to decide: from in vivo electrophysiology to computational models in neural networks”.

DANDRITE is the Danish node of the Nordic EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine. DANDRITE was established by Lundbeckfonden and Aarhus University in 2013 and performs basic and translational research in brain and the nervous system. DANDRITE is an interdisciplinary research centre affiliated with two faculties at Aarhus University, the Faculty of Health and the Faculty of Science and Technology. The centre has ties to Aarhus University Hospital.

Job responsibilities
The applicant will perform training of mice on a countermanding task, inject animals in Medial Prefrontal Cortex with Adeno Associated Viruses expressing optical actuators and perform electrophysiological recordings and optical stimulation of specific cell-types in behaving animals. Applicant’s job is to analyze the collected behavioral and physiological data. Goal of the project is to 1. Study the neural representations in mPFC, 2. Derive local learning rules from the data to build realistic computational models how neural networks perform learning. This project will be integrated with other activities in the lab that also aim to understand how prefrontal circuits function in value based decision making.

Specific competences
The ideal candidate has experience in chronic electrophysiological recordings, optogenetics, computer programming, modelling, and data analysis. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to be able to manage projects, interact with international collaborators, develop novel technical approaches, conduct firm, kind and thorough supervision and be a good team player.

Application procedure
Short-listing is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.

Formalities and salary range

Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
