2-year postdoc position in integrative structural biology at the Center for Proteins in Memory (PROMEMO) 928850

The new Center for Proteins in Memory (PROMEMO) at Aarhus University invites applications for a postdoc position in integrative structural biology and molecular neuroscience. The position is funded by The Danish National Research Foundation and is initially for two years with the possibility of extension. The starting date is 1 November 2017.

Our memories are stored into the physical structure of our brains. The paradigmatic molecular model for this is long-term potentiation, which explains how connections between neurons are altered by experience-driven neuronal activity. The objective of this project is to understand the structural changes occurring in the post-synaptic density with a special focus on the signalling complexes of the NMDA receptor, and on how emotions strengthen memory consolidation.

The candidate is expected to have a Ph.D. in molecular biology, neuroscience, biology, nanoscience, or similar, and a good track record of publication. The candidate is experienced in recombinant protein expression in various hosts, protein purification and sample preparation for structural biology. Additionally, the ideal candidate should have experience with cryo-electron microscopy and NMR spectroscopy as well as a track record in handling both membrane proteins and intrinsically disordered proteins. Knowledge of neuroscience in general and long-term potentiation is a plus, but not an absolute requirement.

The place of work is Department of Molecular Biology, part of a multidisciplinary Center of Excellence, Ole Worms Allé 3, 8000 Aarhus C and the area of employment is Aarhus University with related departments

For further information contact Assistant Professor Magnus Kjærgaard (magnus@inano.au.dk).

Application procedure
Short-listing is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.
