Meet Aarhus University during the Aarhus Festival 2015

Explore the sea bed with underwater drones, walk on water, learn more about Danish delicacies, meet a robot and ask researchers questions about everything between heaven and earth. Aarhus University will be present at different locations during the Aarhus Festival 2015, which takes place on 28 August–6 September. You can find a summary here.

Experience the wonderful world of technology

AU Engineering is opening its doors for a number of different activities in the Navitas Building at the Port of Aarhus during the weekend 29–30 August. You can meet the popular humanoid robot NAO, visit the 3D print laboratory, and steer a huge ship from the control room in Denmark’s largest machine room simulator. Researchers and engineering students from Aarhus University will be waiting around the Navitas Building at the Port of Aarhus to provide you with experiences beyond the ordinary. These include a tour of the dock in specially designed concrete canoes or the chance to explore the sea bed with underwater drones. Ask a researcher

On Thursday 3 and Friday 4 September, there is good news for people who are hungry for knowledge. If something has aroused your curiosity or you have been pondering a question, you now have an opportunity to get an explanation from Aarhus University researchers. In collaboration with the Aarhus Festival and TV2 East Jutland, Aarhus University is organising ‘Ask a researcher’, where the university’s researchers are prepared to answer questions from the public on board Denmark’s newest research vessel – the Aurora. Submit your question now (in Danish only) and preferably prior to 20 August. You will receive an answer during the Aarhus Festival or subsequently on TV2. Reservations for the event are required.

Open ship event on the Aurora

Come on board for a conducted tour of Denmark’s newest research vessel – the Aurora. Biologists and students will be standing by to show you wonderful plants, animals and bacteria caught around the piers at the Port of Aarhus and from the sea bed in the Bay of Aarhus. Read more about the open ship event (in Danish only).

Sail on the Aurora

Come on board Denmark’s newest research vessel – the Aurora – when we set sail from the Port of Aarhus on a mini-expedition in the Bay of Aarhus. During the trip you will have an opportunity to use an echo sounder to explore the sea bed. Read more about sailing on the Aurora (in Danish only).

Food Festival

At the largest food festival in the Nordic countries, master chefs will reveal their culinary secrets – of course with a great opportunity to sample the delicacies. And researchers will talk about the ingredients. The Food Festival will provide you with insight into the production of ingredients and how to prepare them. It will also show you how to cook in a sustainable way, inspired by the latest food trends and tempted by Danish delicacies. Read more about the Food Festival (in Danish only).

Lecture: The wonderful journey of light through the Sun?

The Aarhus Festival’s theme is ‘Light – more light’, and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has proclaimed 2015 as the International Year of Light. The ideal lecture is therefore ‘The wonderful journey of light through the Sun’, given (in Danish ) by Postdoctoral Fellow in Astronomy and Geoscience Christoffer Karoff, Aarhus University. The lecture features sunspots, solar flares and aurorae – phenomena that have had an impact on the Earth’s climate throughout history and which provide an indication of what to expect in the future. Read more about the lecture (in Danish only).
